Fire in a wind turbine environment presents a serious risk due to confined spaces, electrical installations, hydraulic systems and limited escape routes. Rapid and correct decision-making is critical to prevent escalation and protect personnel.
The BST Fire Awareness Module, delivered in accordance with GWO BST V19, provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to identify fire hazards, prevent fire incidents and respond appropriately if a fire occurs.
Participants learn the fundamentals of combustion, fire spread and fire gases, including the fire triangle and fire classes. The training covers how to assess a fire, determine whether it is safe to intervene and select the correct extinguishing media. If a fire is judged to be unmanageable, participants are trained to initiate evacuation procedures and ensure all personnel are safely accounted for.
Practical exercises include inspection and correct use of basic handheld firefighting equipment. Scenario-based training reflects realistic wind turbine situations where participants must evaluate risk, act independently and apply safe firefighting techniques at intermediate ability level.
The focus is prevention first, controlled response second and safe evacuation when necessary.
After successful completion of the GWO BST Fire Awareness Module, participants will be able to:
